Paula Fernandes May 29thThursday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Brazilian singer-songwriter Paula Fernandes will bring the best of sertanejo (Brazilian country) and MPB (Popular Brazilain Music) to Barra Music in Jacarepagua tonight. Fernandes is well known for her songs that include; “Eu Sem Você“, “Pássaro De Fogo“, and “Pra Você.”

The Minas Gerais native has released four full-length studio albums. Her most recent release entitled, Meus Encantos, sold over one million copies in Brazil and was certified Diamond by the Brazilian Association of Record Producers (ABPD).

Her two live albums; 2011’s Paula Fernandes: Ao Vivo and 2013’s Multishow Ao Vivo: Um Ser Amor, saw even greater success, selling a combined six million copies in Brazil to date.

Fernandes has also performed live with big names in the international scene, including, American Country music singer Taylor Swift. For fans of sertanejo (Brazilian country), this is a not-to-be-missed night.

Blues Festival with Charles Zanol, Otávio Rocha and Décio Caetano (Laranjeiras)
Tonight Bar do B in Laranjeiras will hold the fourth night of the 2014 Blues Festival. Vocalist Charles Zanol and guitarist Otávio Rocha will host, while Beto Werther will be on drums with Ugo Perrota on bass. Special guest, guitarist Décio Caetano will join them.

Blue Agave (Ipanema)
It’s Language Exchange night at the Blue Agave in Ipanema. Set up like speed dating, native English speakers will be paired up with native Portuguese speakers at tables. The pairs will then speak English for five minutes followed by Portuguese for five minutes. After those ten minutes, each speaker will move on to a new table and conversation partner. It’s a fun, educational event and a great opportunity to mix and mingle with native speakers of both English and Portuguese.
