The Jesus and Mary Chain May 27thTuesday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain make a special appearance tonight in Marina da Glória as part of the ongoing Vivo Open Air Cinema Tour and festival.

The band will play after a screening of the 1984 sci-fi action film, “The Terminator.” The film will be shown on the 325 square meter screen temporarily up in Marina da Glória.

Formed in 1983, The Jesus and Mary Chain have six studio album releases and are well known for their songs including; “Just Like Honey”, “Sometimes Always” and “April Skies.”

Blues Festival with Beale Street (Laranjeiras)
It’s time for more blues as Bar do B in Laranjeiras hosts the second night of the 2014 Blues Festival. Rio blues trio Beale Street will celebrate their 15th anniversary tonight and the group’s guitarist and vocalist, Ivan Mariz will host for the night. Beto Werther will be on percussion and festival co-programmer Cesar Lago will be on bass. Special guest, guitarist Big Joe Manfra will also join the trio for the night.
Bar do B – Doors open 8 PM and show is scheduled to begin at 9PM.

Lapa Irish Pub (Lapa)
It is Portuguese/English language exchange night at the Lapa Irish Pub. Set up like speed dating, native English speakers will be paired up with native Portuguese speakers at tables. The pairs will then speak English for five minutes followed by Portuguese for five minutes. After those ten minutes, each speaker will move on to a new table and conversation partner. It’s a fun, education R$10 to participate and the cost includes free food. A session of Irish music will follow the exchange and happy hour at the pub also lasts until 8 PM with two for one Ashby Chopp and Vinho Chopp.
