Juvenilia PopFest  with Sebadoh April 24thThursday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Tonight Lapa’s Circo Voador will rumble with fuzzed-out power chords produced on down tuned guitars and other distorted sounds of lo-fi indie rock as the venue hosts the Juvenilia Popfest.

Rio’s The John Candy will be on hand as will São Paulo natives Single Parents, but the highlight of the night is the special guest, lo-fi indie rock pioneers Sebadoh.

Sebadoh consists of bassist and vocalist Jason Loewenstein, drummer Bob D’Amico and frontman and vocalist Lou Barlow, also well known for his time as bassist for legendary alternative band Dinosaur Jr and for his other side project, lo-fi band The Folk Implosion.

The trio are currently touring Brazil for the first time ever in support of their most recent release, Defend Yourself.

For fans of 1990s alternative and lo-fi indie rock, this is a Circo Voador night not to be missed.

The Praia Club hosts the Arpex event for the first time tonight. The Funk will provide an audiovisual show and several guest DJs will also be hand to keep the party going in Lagoa.

Tonight, The Rio Times hosts a mixer at Ipanema’s Gringo Cafe, giving attendees a chance to mingle and network with writers in the city. Special guests include popular bloggers as well as journalists, authors and screenwriters. From 7-11PM, bottled beers will be R$5; glasses of wine R$10 and one free longneck bottle of beer will accompany any burger!

Cineclube Anistia presents ‘God Loves Uganda'(Lapa)
In Laranjeiras tonight, The Amnesty Film Society, part of the Amnesty International Observatory on Gender Issues and Politics, presents a screening of the documentary,”God Loves Uganda.” Following the screening will be a discussion with Kasha Jacqueline, a Ugandan activist for LGBT rights and founder of “Freedom and Roam Uganda” (FARUG).
