RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The city’s “Feira do Rio Antigo” (Old Rio Market), which takes place every first Saturday of the month in Lapa, will have a special edition for Carnival fans today, November 2nd. In anticipation of the selection of the “Rei Momo” (King Momo), an important Carnival personality, musicians and lively samba dancers will be present at the market.
The antique market takes place in the Rua do Lavradio in the heart of bohemian neighborhood Lapa, with sellers offering everything from furniture to clothes, accessories and charming articles for decoration. Resisting the urge to buy items from the various stalls will prove a difficult task.
For the special edition this Saturday, dancers from the Caprichoso de Pilares samba school will perform between the stalls, turning the market into a party with a distinct Carnival feel.
The dancers will also perform at 4PM at Praça Emilinha Borba. Masters of the samba rhythms – the school’s drummers – will showcase their beats on Praça Tiradentes at 5PM.
