Friday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Start the Carnaval off right with the festa Braza, which is back for a very special edition at Mansao Niemeyer in Leblon. Expect the best of soul, funk, old school beats, afrobeats, breaks and rare grooves from 3 of Rio’s finest crews.

After 3 editions, Braza has proved to be one of the funkiest parties in town, creating an atmosphere and vibe that speaks for itself. Tonight local crews Brazilian Wax, The Groov and Botafogo Social Club will throw down in true Carnaval form. This is not to be missed at the incredible Mansao Niemeyer. DJs include The Ambassadors, DJ Saraiva, Pedro Piu from Brazilian Wax, and Botafogo Social Club residents Mike Frugaeltti, Doug Gray and Tee Cardaci.

Carnaval Samba Parade – Access Groups at the Sambadromo (Lapa)
Composed of 19 of Rio’s biggest samba schools, the competition is fierce in this category, as the winner makes it to the Special Group parade of the following year. This is the best option for those who do not want to spend huge amounts of money, but are still interested in watching exceptional performances.

Braza (Centro)
Start the Carnaval party off with a funky bang as Botafogo Social Club, The Groov and Brazilian Wax team up to bring you Braza. One of the few parties in Rio that will mix up funk, soul, breaks, rare groove, Brazilian funk and much much more.

Circo Loco (Copacabana)
The Rio Music Conference began this week with their official awards ceremony. Now its time to kick off the parties. Tonight will provide Rio with a fantastic variety of music from such well known DJs and producer Seth Troxler, DJ Sneak, DJ Wild and many more.

Bloco Boêmios da Lapa (Lapa)
This bloco epitomizes the bohemian district of Lapa in which it is set so expect a huge crowd made up of residents and travelers. The scene is very informal but with a distinctive party vibe and bars are open late as usual for anyone wishing to carry on through the night.

Mud Bug (Copacabana)
With two locations in Copacabana, Mud Bug providing a great selection of beers and a menu as well. There isn’t much missing from this American style staple. Also expect to hear live jazz, blues, MPB and rock from time to time.
