Friday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Monobloco represents all things Brazilian, all things Rio, all things Carnival and especially all things samba. Considered to be one of the most diverse bands by incorporating various musical styles and rhythms to the beat of samba, Monobloco was formed in 2000 and now consists of over one hundred participants. Their musical repertoire ranges from traditional marches of John Roberto Kelly to samba of Cartola and Clara Nunes, through the xote of Alceu of Valencia, the dance of Gonzaga, the funk MC Leonardo, and even songs Paralamas do Sucesso, Raul Seixas and Tim Maia.
Tonight they kick off the Carnival season right at the epic venue Fundição Progresso in Lapa.

Baile pré-carnavalesco da Orquestra Imperial (Lapa)
Orquestra Imperial are back at Circo Voador with their remarkable show to heat up the stage and Lapa for Carnival. This year, the traditional costume ball will feature cameos from singer Emanuelle Araujo and DJ Samba (Stephen Ciavatta).

Monobloco sets the stage for their annual Carnival do Monobloco. The over hundred person percussion band is known all throughout Brazil and their shows are not to be missed.
