Monday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Today is the international day of hip hop, a globally recognized event that supports and promotes the hip hop culture and all things related. This event will feature some of Rio’s top hip hop DJs as they pay tribute to their scene. Expect to hear from Eletrobase’s Saci, Dadu and Lulinha, DJ Saddam, DJ Saraiva and many more. There also be MC’s performing live as well as graffiti artists displaying their works for all to appreciate.

Hip hop was born in New York City, specifically in the Bronx back in the late 1970’s. The culture arose from various block parties featuring DJs and large amounts of public. These block parties ultimately led to the creation of b-boying (break dancing) and MCing, two of the five elements of hip hop culture. Since then, it has exploded all over the world, being one of the most popular global trends to date.
