By Robbie Blakeley, Senior Contributing Reporter

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Flamengo were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Cruzeiro in the 2012 Brasileirão last night. Goals from Liedson (Flamengo) and Everton (Cruzeiro) did little to change either sides’ fortunes in what has been a frustrating campaign for both clubs.

Flamengo were the better side, especially in the second half when they stepped up a gear and created numerous opportunities to win the game. However leading scorer Vagner Love failed to find the back of the net on an off day for the number 99.

The result leaves the Rubro-Negro in a mediocre 14th place with a paltry 36 points. Cruzeiro stay ninth with forty points.

After such a turbulent year both on and off the field, Flamengo will be glad to see the back of 2012. Already the club are reportedly preparing for 2013 as the board of directors discuss possible transfer targets for an assault on next year’s Brasileirão title.

Today sees the three remaining Carioca clubs in action. Botafogo travel to Porto Alegre to face Grêmio, Vasco play at Santos and league leaders Fluminense host Ponte Preta at São Januário.
