10th Bourbon Street Fest in Ipanema: Daily

By Nathan M. Walters, Senior Contributing Reporter

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “Laissez les bons temps rouler,” (let the good times roll) is the unofficial slogan of New Orleans, one that accurately sums up the festive vibe of the city, as anyone who has strolled through the French Quarter can attest.  Starting tonight, the free shows will be at full steam at Parque Garota de Ipanema in Arpoador as well as tomorrow, August 13th, and at Oi Futuro in Ipanema on Tuesday, August 14th.

In the 10th edition of the Bourbon Street Festival, the Carioca crowd will be treated to eight open concerts spread over three days. The lineup is impressive, bringing some of the top acts from the dixieland, blues, R&B, and zydeco genres.

“I love New Orleans! The music, the food, the people.  Is not like anywhere else in the U.S.,” says Vera Nunes, who will attend the concerts.  New Orleans is one of the most interesting cities in the U.S., unfortunately too often overlooked by visiting Brazilians.  Hopefully, the music over the next three days will entice more visitors to the French Quarter.

The festival kicks off this afternoon (with tonight’s last act, Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers, going on at 7PM) and resumes at 6:30PM on Monday, with a final round of performances on Tuesday at 7:30PM. The good times will roll in Ipanema.

The festival is also in São Paulo, Brasília and Curitiba, for more information visit the Bourbon Street Fest website here.
