Brazilian Minister of Justice Flávio Dino has announced that the government will present a new bill to regulate the civilian population’s access to arms this month.

In addition to a series of derogations signed by the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, during his first day in office in relation to this issue, to some Bolsonaro rules, which in practice facilitated access to weapons.

“This decree comes to recompose the system that, during Bolsonaro’s government, was dismantled,” said Dino in an interview for GloboNews.

“We are going to try to do something that, first of all, puts an end to that general liberalization, the abuses, the Wild West, that was set up there,” he explained.

“Especially because it is a threat to public safety, to the safety of police officers,” added Dino, who also criticized that “many people” made money with this rule.

“Legally, the gangs bought weapons and ammunition,” he denounced.
