Telegram messenger allows cryptocurrencies to be sent via the app

The messenger app has also allowed bitcoin purchases since late last year.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The TON Foundation has added crypto payments to Telegram, allowing its 550 million users to send and receive the cryptocurrency Toncoin (TON) through the messaging app, according to a statement released Tuesday (26).

While only TON can be sent within the app, users can also buy Bitcoin (BTC) via Telegram's "@wallet" bot (a type of robot programmed to perform tasks).
