Acapulco’s decline from “tourist mecca” to second most violent city in the world

The paradisiacal beaches of Acapulco on Mexico's Pacific coast were once again stained with blood this weekend after waves washed up the bodies of three people, to the astonishment of hundreds of bathers enjoying a peaceful day in the sun and on the beach.

The former tourist jewel of the state of Guerrero has been spiraling into violence and neglect for several years.
