Inflation in Paraguay deemed temporary; wage increase challenged

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Former Finance Minister Manuel Ferreira, economic advisor to Paraguay's Chamber of Advertisers, said in a press conference after a meeting with president Mario Abdo Benítez that in his opinion this is a "transitory" inflation.

In this respect, Ferreira said that a new salary increase would have a "worse" impact on employment than the impact of the increase.

The chairman of the Paraguayan Industrial Union (UIP) Enrique Duarte said that inflation is "caused by external phenomena" which nevertheless concern the business community and which were also discussed at the meeting with the president.
