Brazil: Rio’s Theatro Municipal reopens with free shows after 19 months closed

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - After a year and 7 months closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Rio de Janeiro's Theatro Municipal decided to start operating again with a special program and free sessions to end the nostalgia of those who missed the shows.

The project is called "Theatro Municipal de portas abertas" (Theatro Municipal with open doors), and its goal is to promote access to shows and invite the population to consume art.

A number of music and ballet performances are highlighted, such as "Paquita", with music by Ludwig Minkus, and "Noite de Walpurgis," with music by Charles Gounod . . .
