RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The balance of health violations recorded in the city in the first half of 2021 has been disclosed - and the number of people detected by the Municipal Guard without a mask on the streets, public areas and commercial establishments is striking.
Of the 5,280 fines issued between January and June during enforcement actions to fight the Covid-19 pandemic in the city, 4,602 concerned mask wear violations.
According to a municipal decree from May 2020, failure to comply with this law can cost the offender R$562.42 (US$111).
