Musk says he is “open to the idea” of buying Substack to offset media censorship

In a Twitter dialogue, billionaire Elon Musk, currently Twitter’s CEO, showed interest in buying the giant Substack, a platform that provides infrastructure for subscription-based newsletter publishing worldwide.

The statement came on Wednesday (Dec. 28), as Musk responded to a tweet from reporter Leighton Woodhouse that the mainstream media avoids talking about Musk’s recently disclosed Twitter filings.

“In my substack: the response of establishment journalists to the Twitter files is that of a profession committed to protecting the state rather than exposing it,” said the reporter.

Musk shared Woodhouse’s post with a question:

“Why is corporate journalism rushing to defend the state instead of the people?” asked Musk.

Then, other profiles with large numbers of Twitter followers entered the conversation, such as American investor Collin Rugg and Twitter page Wall Street Silver, which responded to Musk’s tweet suggesting that the billionaire should acquire Substack through Twitter.

“It would make sense for Twitter to buy Substack and connect the two platforms more strongly. Twitter plus Substack create massive instant competition for obsolete corporate media,” Wall Street Silver tweeted.

Musk responded by saying he would be “open to the idea.”
