France abandons Covid passports and masks

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – France will eliminate the health certificate and mask requirement to attend public places as of March 14.

People in France will no longer need to present a Covid-19 passport to attend closed public places, French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced Thursday in an interview with TF1.

The French cabinet chief said the situation with the pandemic was improving “thanks to our collective efforts,” allowing the country to lift some restrictions.

The official said that face masks would no longer be mandatory in less than two weeks in France, except for public transport passengers.

However, the elderly will still have to show proof of vaccination to access home care for the elderly, Castex said, while caregivers will have to be vaccinated to work there.

The French presidential election will begin on April 10.
