São Paulo Court bans city hall from removing homeless people’s tents

The Court prohibited the São Paulo City Hall from removing the tents of street dwellers.

The decision was released on Friday (Feb. 17) and followed a lawsuit filed by federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) by homeless movements and activist Father Julio Lancellotti.

According to Judge Juliana Brescansin Demarchi Molina from the 7th Public Treasury Court, there is "complexity" and "urgency" in the matter.

For this reason, she has scheduled a hearing for Feb. 24.

Only objects that obstruct roads and sidewalks and impede the circulation of vehicles and pedestrians may be removed until the hearing occurs.
