Machu Picchu village flooded after river overflows in Peru; tourists evacuated

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The heavy rains recorded in the Andean region of Cuzco (Peru) caused this Friday the overflowing of the Alcamayo river, which covered with stones and mud the streets of the town of Machu Picchu, located in the lower part of the mountains where the tourist Inca citadel is located.

Peruvian authorities alerted through Twitter that the neighbors of the town, also known as Aguas Calientes and located in the Cusco province of Urubamba, reported at least five people missing, although this is still being evaluated by the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN . . .
