The mayor of Florianópolis, Topázio Neto (Republicans), decreed a situation of emergency in the city due to the heavy rains that hit the Santa Catarina state.

"We went through the city during the early morning hours, and we are now taking advantage of the daylight to evaluate the impacts better. Focus today is to secure lives!" the mayor wrote on Twitter.
"We will avoid moving as much as possible while heavy precipitation persists in our region. The expectation is to improve between the afternoon and evening of Thursday," he said . . .
