Journalist of PM Noticias portal Manuel González is murdered in Mexico

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Mexican police have reported that journalist Manuel González Reyes, of the portal PM Noticias, has been shot dead in the El Miraval neighborhood, which is located in the Mexican city of Cuernavaca.

The reporter, who managed the media outlet’s Facebook account, was reportedly killed by a group of armed men who fled after the assault towards the Patios de la Estación neighborhood.

The journalist was also carrying a credential that accredited him as a worker of Portal Morelos. Police sources revealed to the newspaper ‘La Jornada’ that he had several head wounds caused by a firearm.

Gonzalez was reportedly attacked at around 4:30 PM by several men who approached him and opened fire. The journalist also ran for the Bienestar Ciudadano party -now extinct- in the local elections for the municipality of Cuernavaca.

Government data indicate that with his death, there are already 47 journalists murdered in the country during the government of the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who was sworn in on December 1, 2018.
