Argentina’s economic activity records 5.2 % growth in 2022

Argentina’s economic activity grew 5.2 percent year-on-year during 2022, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) reported yesterday, Thursday.

The data published by the state entity is preliminary to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) variation figure that will be officially known next March 22.

The county’s economy contracted 1.2 percent year-on-year last December, with a sharp 18 percent drop in agriculture, livestock, hunting, and forestry.

Likewise, a 2.1 percent decline was reported in the manufacturing industry, 1.7 percent in construction, and 1.1 percent in commerce.

In the last month of the year, fishing grew by 15.5 percent, followed by hotels and restaurants and mining and quarrying, sectors that reported an increase of 10.8 percent, respectively.

However, in all of 2022, industrial production accumulated a 4.3 percent growth while construction accumulated a 3.5 percent growth, detailed state news agency Télam.

For 2023, the Argentine government projects a 2 percent growth in line with the estimates of multilateral organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
