The slow response of the government of Melella brings serious and serious consequences for the environment, but mainly for the small town of Tolhuin, a commune that is located between the cities of Ushuaia and Río Grande, and which, to date, has lost more than 12,000 hectares, product of a fire that destroyed a large part of the local soil, and that continues to advance.

Although Fuegian society has been raising awareness through social networks of what is happening in that sector, the Fuegian Provincial Executive carried out an operation with fire hydrant planes and hydrobucket helicopters, with the idea of putting out the fire, but with delayed times.

It should be noted that the actions carried out by the management are not enough, and there is no concrete solution to combat the situation that the so-called “Heart of the Island” is going through. Product of the slowness to advance in this problem, and in spite of the fact that the government of the province, ordered the presence of 52 new brigade members.

The flames that consume the area of Tierra del Fuego, hit the province, and mainly the natural area. It should be noted that the “Heart of the Island” has been suffering from the flames for more than ten days, and according to the Minister of Production and Environment of the Tierra del Fuego government, Sonia Castiglione, more than 12,000 hectares were lost.

A fact that outrages the entire Tierra del Fuego society, due to the minimal commitment that exists on the part of the governor of the province of Tierra del Fuego, and the teams that accompany him.

On the other hand, in the last hours, it was reported that there is no house or living space compromised with what is happening in the area of La Rinconada, Estancia La Carmen and Estancia Los Cerros. Although the government had ordered that all the equipment and resources to fight the fire be distributed in two sectors: the area surrounding Estancia Los Cerros and Isla Guanaco.

Although the disaster could have been avoided, various sectors maintain that Gustavo Melella’s administration is not responsible for the flames that are destroying thousands of hectares in the Fuegian town of Tolhuin, which will bring serious consequences for future generations.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the bad government decisions of the provincial Executive, made the entire area that is on fire, equivalent to four times the surface of the Tierra del Fuego capital. Bearing in mind that these are green areas and virgin forests from a long time ago, with trees more than 40 meters high, and that they have been affected by the fires for more than ten days now.

Although there is no estimated time for when this disaster that is spreading day by day through the surrounding areas ends, Governor Gustavo Melella stated that the strong winds prevented them from putting out the sources of fires, and that justice has already been  working on those responsible for this great problem.

A UNIQUE NATURE RESERVE

According to several specialists, the value of this natural sector is extremely high, due to protected sectors of peat bogs and virgin forests, which today are engulfed in flames, and which spread as the days go by.

In addition, the area stands out for being indisputable for the region, safeguarding its natural system of Argentine waters, made up of the Yehuin, Yakush and Chepelmut lakes. Connected to each other, and furthermore linked by a local section of Lago Deseado.

Likewise, in the Fuegian natural reserves there are native red foxes and guanacos. With the risk of several species disappearing from the province of Tierra del Fuego. Not only terrestrial animals, but also birds, and of course a large part of the flora, where the forests of cherry trees, ñires and lengas stand out.
