The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) report, consulted by Lusa, focuses on demographic indicators and reproductive and sexual health in two hundred countries and regions, predicting that the world population will exceed eight billion in 2023.
According to the same document, two-thirds of the world population lives in regions where fertility rates have fallen below the so-called replacement level of 2.1 births per woman.
The world average is 2.3.
