U.S. Secretary of State calls on Brazil for increased efforts against irregular migration

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - According to the note, the Secretary recognized Brazil's leadership in assisting vulnerable migrant populations, including Haitians and Venezuelans, and "discussed how to better cooperate to curb the growing uncontrolled flow of irregular migrants in the region."

The two government representatives discussed irregular migratory flows "unprecedented throughout the hemisphere" and common goals for the upcoming ministerial conference on migration in Bogota.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, the number of Brazilians illegally crossing the southern border from Mexico broke records in recent months . . .
