Latin America’s vaccine scarcity threatens a fragile economic revival while pandemic rages

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The region of around 660 million people has to date recorded nearly 30% of the world’s 3.2 million COVID-19 deaths, even though only 8% of the world’s population live here. While countries in Africa and Asia also lag behind Europe and North America when it comes to vaccination, health experts say Latin America’s need for vaccines is most urgent.
