In-depth: Vandalism, Dino, abuse of authority – Brazilian Congress has a “war” for investigation committees

The new National Congress takes office on Feb. 1. It already begins its activities with an atmosphere of dispute not only about the elections for the command of the House and Senate but also about the installation or not of parliamentary investigation committees (CPIs).

The "war of the CPIs" involves mainly three proposals for investigation:

  • acts of vandalism in Brasília,
  • the responsibilities of Minister Flávio Dino (Justice) on Jan. 8, and
  • the alleged abuses of authority committed by ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the Superior Electoral . . .
