Analysis: how independent will Brazilian Congress be from Lula da Silva

President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT, progressive-globalist) support for the reelection of former Bolsonaro ally Chamber president Arthur Lira, declared at the end of November, was an important gesture to ensure support and governability in his third term.

But it may be insufficient to prevent a greater degree of independence from the National Congress in the legislature that begins in February.

The PT's signs of support for the reelection of the Senate president, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), also have little potential to change the direction of Parliament's protagonism.
