US school installs armored structure against snipers

West Elementary School in Cullman, Alabama, US, has installed an armored structure inside the building.

The bullet-proof security system is designed to protect students and teachers in a shooting and serve as a shelter in case of a natural disaster.

The armored structure takes about ten seconds to be fully assembled.

Teachers at West Elementary held a demonstration of the system on Monday the 13th to prove how the equipment works and how quickly it can be assembled.

The presentation was attended by congress members interested in the security system.

Each secure room costs just under US$60,000.

Those responsible are exploring options to get funding to implement more of these systems in other educational institutions.

The security system’s manufacturer said the project came about after the 2022 tragedy at a school in Texas, where a gunman murdered 19 children and two teachers.

A video that has had nearly 28 million views on Twitter shows how the system works.
